Week 11 – Truth #1: Your Future Drives Your Present

A Clear Future Creates Better Choices Today
When Linda turned 70, she began to notice her energy slipping and her motivation fading. She told herself, “It’s too late to change much now.” But one evening, while journaling, she tried something new: she pictured her 80-year-old self.
In her mind, that future version of Linda was still living independently, walking with friends, and hosting small dinner gatherings. The image felt vivid—warm light, laughter, movement, and connection.
That night, she decided to start walking around her block every morning. Within months, she felt stronger, slept better, and started meeting neighbors along the way. What began as a small habit turned into a life-shaping practice, guided by one clear picture of her future self.
Research Nugget
Studies show that visualizing your future self improves both health and financial behavior. When people imagine themselves 10 or 20 years ahead—seeing, hearing, and feeling that future—they make smarter daily choices: saving more, exercising consistently, and maintaining social ties.
When your vision of “Future You” is clear, motivation follows. You’re no longer just reacting to today—you’re moving toward something that matters.
Simple Tips to Try
This week, connect your present choices with your future vision:
-
Write One Sentence as Your 80-Year-Old Self. “I’m proud that I…” or “I’m grateful I chose to…”
-
Post a Photo That Represents Your Future Self. Keep it where you’ll see it—a joyful reminder of what you’re building toward.
-
Take One Aligned Action Today. Go for that walk, schedule that checkup, call that friend—something your 80-year-old self would thank you for.
Each small act becomes a quiet promise to your future self.
Anchor Question
“What choice today moves me closer to the life I want at 80 or or five to ten years from now?”
Ask it every morning this week. You may be surprised how often the answer is simple—and within reach.
